Warehouse Article Management
Each of your articles exists in our warehouse system as a warehouse article with its own internal article number. When you create the article in the connector, you assign it a SKU (Shop SKU as stored in your shop system) and a barcode (as printed on the product).
You can also assign multiple alternative SKUs to the same warehouse article.
Similarly, it is possible to assign multiple alternative barcodes.
When can alternative SKUs be useful?
Alternative SKUs can be created independently of alternative barcodes. They serve the purpose of allowing multiple shop SKUs to access the same warehouse article. This can be the case when:
- Multi-Channel Selling: You sell in two or more shop systems that require different SKU naming conventions. For example, Shopify and Amazon may assign different SKUs to the same item. Using an alternative SKU allows both to access the same inventory. No matter which shop the order comes from, it maps to the same warehouse article.
- Single Shop Differentiation: Within the same shop system, you want to create multiple SKUs for the same physical item. For example:
- Offering an item at a regular price while also providing it as a freebie under specific conditions.
- Distinguishing between user groups, such as exclusive SKUs for business customers to differentiate package sizes or VAT handling for B2B vs. B2C transactions.
Note: To avoid double synchronization of inventory, only the stock of the primary Shop SKU is communicated back to the shop systems, not the stock of alternative SKUs.
When can alternative barcodes be useful?
Alternative barcodes can be created independently of alternative SKUs. They allow you to associate different barcodes with the same physical item while booking them under the same inventory. This is useful when:
- You change suppliers, and the same item now has different barcodes printed on it.
- You update the product packaging design, which entails changing the barcode associated with the product.
Note: If you need to order the item specifically by its barcode, it is better to create a separate article in the connector for each barcode. The system does not differentiate in the warehouse based on which specific barcode is printed when using alternative barcodes.
Article Setup in the Connector
When setting up an article in the connector, you provide the Warehouse SKU (e.g., "OLI-1L"). You have the option to add another SKU under the "Add Alternative SKU" section (e.g., "AMZ-OLI-1L" for Amazon). Similarly, for a barcode (e.g., "234567"), you can add another barcode using the "Add Alternative Barcode" option.
| Field Type | Primary Value Example | Alternative Value Example |
|---|---|---|
| SKU | OLI-1L | AMZ-OLI-1L |
| Barcode | 234567 | 891011 |
